5 Musicians You Should Probably Start Listening To

You’re savvy, you spend a substantial amount of time on the internet, keeping up with the latest trends. But just in case you were hiding under a rock somewhere (or I guess you could have an actual life outside…), here are five great up-and-coming artists you should probably start listening to, in no particular order.

Alessia Cara
Alessia, a 19 year-old Canadian singer-songwriter, started a youtube channel at age 13 and has moved up in the ranks all the way to performing on The Tonight Show Starring Jimmy Fallon. Every song on the singer’s debut EP, Four Pink Walls, was co-written or written exclusively by Cara and displays a soulful maturity both in vocal abilities and subject matter.

Listen to her when: you just feel like no one could understand you.

Chlöe Howl
Howl isn’t as new as Cara, as her debut EP Rumor was released in March of 2013, but she deserves much more attention than she’s gotten. After leaving her label at Sony, the English singer-songwriter is working with indie label Heavenly Songs to undoubtedly create a more personal sound, though her debut of pop-rock/synthpop was fantastically honest already. Hopefully if more people listen to her that next album will come even faster.

Listen to her when: you’re admittedly really confused about that hook up or what you’re doing with your life.

Troye Sivan
With over 3.5 million subscribers on Youtube and 2.95 million followers on Twitter, Troye is no new name to the internet world, but you may not have known that he’s come out with two EP’s, TRXYE and Wild. His sophomore EP shows maturity and growth from the already spectacular TRXYE, and is full of the romantic synthpop you crave.

Listen to him when: you’re having an introspective drive/train ride.

Zella Day
This Arizona native wrote every song on her debut album, Kicker, which has themes similar to that of Lana del Rey, but with a sound unique to Day. Her romantic melodies in “Sweet Ophelia” and “1965” are almost hypnotic, which also happens to be the title of the first single from her album, whereas “Jameson” proves to be a more soulful, raw performance.

Listen to her when: you just can’t stop thinking about that person…you know the one.

Seinabo Sey
Hailing all the way from Sweden, Seinabo Sey gained exposure after her debut single, “Younger,” was remixed by Norwegian DJ Kyga and entered dance charts in some countries. Described as “soul pop,” Sey’s music is exactly that; her two EP’s, For Madeleine and For Maudo, were named after and dedicated to her parents.

Listen to her when: you need that extra motivation to keep studying and progressing as a human.

This list is just a small sample of some amazing artists you can find out there to fit perfectly into your lifestyle. Comment down below if you check out any of these or have any recommendations of your own.

    1. Yayy. I also highly recommend Halsey, Melanie Martinez, and Years & Years, they’re just becoming better known so I thought I wouldn’t mention them in the main post.
